Afghani Sheep Herder
An oil painting of an anonymous Afghani sheep herder for my Intro. to Figure Painting class. It is a copy from a photograph in Steve McCurry's book, "Looking East", a book I recommend for it's beautiful and exotic portraiture. I'm somewhat pleased by this painting though it's appeal is mainly attributed to the quality of the source photograph. Hopefully I'll get oil painting down with more practice.

The reason for the title...
Not that anybody gives a damn, but "The Inexhaustible Well" is a term borrowed from one of my favorite works of literature, Paul Bowles classic "The Sheltering Sky":
"...we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times. perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."
Read the book first, watch the movie after.
